Bored Ape creator Yuga Labs launches first ‘Community Council’
In a bid to bolster its Web3 presence, Yuga Labs, the creator of the Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT collection has assembled a community council made up of notable Ape collectors.
The firm appointed seven holders of the NFT collection to form the council. Yuga Labs detailed the profile of the selected council members in a blog post, adding that the number of members is bound to increase over time.
“This council was formed with the intention of representing the club at large and providing a new avenue of perspective, […] The council, and future councils to come, puts a more formal, efficient and consistent process in place for Yuga leadership to get community feedback and advice on an ongoing basis,” the blog post read.
The list of council members includes Josh Ong, Sera, Laura Rod, 0xEthan, 0xWave, Negi, and Peter Fang, all Web3 entrepreneurs and long-time Bored Ape owners who have been active in building the community.
The initiative is similar to the ApeCoin Foundation’s special counsel, a group of Bored Ape holders chosen to help pivot ApeCoin proposals and grants.
Some of the responsibilities of the council include being a focal point of feedback, driving community initiatives, building “autonomy,” and establishing a formalized means of providing feedback as the mouthpiece of the community.
The blog post also revealed that the council will also have a hand in Mutant Ape Yacht Club (MAYC). Meanwhile, some major BAYC holders are notably missing from the list.
Despite the recent threats of liquidation from NFT lending platforms, Bored Apes have been fairly resilient compared to other NFT products. Yuga’s decision to create other collection councils in the future will largely depend on the broader community’s reaction to the new council’s integration.
