Japanese Firm Metaplanet Expands Bitcoin Treasury to 4,525 BTC, Enters Top 10 Public Holders

Metaplanet Inc. (3350), a Japanese technology company, has acquired an additional 319 bitcoin (BTC) at an average price of $83,147 per coin. This recent purchase has propelled the company into the ranks of the top 10 largest public bitcoin holders globally.
The company's total bitcoin holdings now stand at 4,525 BTC. These holdings represent an aggregate cost basis of $408.1 million, with an average acquisition price of $90,194 per bitcoin.
This acquisition is part of Metaplanet's bitcoin treasury operations strategy that began in December 2024. The company's approach aims to use digital assets as a way to enhance value for its shareholders.
Metaplanet has set ambitious goals for its bitcoin holdings, planning to reach 10,000 BTC by the end of 2025 and 21,000 BTC by the end of 2026. The firm's rapid accumulation shows its commitment to this strategy, as holdings grew from just 141 BTC in June 2024.
Metaplanet measures its performance through what it calls "BTC Yield," which tracks the growth of bitcoin holdings relative to shares outstanding. For the first quarter of 2025, the company reported a BTC yield of 95.6%, with a year-to-date figure of 6.5% as of April 14.
The company's bitcoin acquisitions are funded through various capital market activities. These include bond issuances and stock acquisition rights, which allow Metaplanet to raise substantial funds while keeping share dilution to a minimum.
Currently, approximately 41.7% of Metaplanet's "210 million plan" has been completed. This strategy appears to position the company for continued expansion of its bitcoin treasury in the coming months.
