The Non-fungible token (NFT) market has experienced unprecedented growth in 2021. In fact, a report on CNBC revealed that the NFT trading volume within the third quarter of 2021 surged to $10 billion. This further explains why there has been a massive buzz about NFTs in recent times. We have also seen an influx of NFT projects, some of which have been sold for millions of dollars.

Today, there are quite a number of these NFT collectibles making the headlines for their market acceptability and great use cases. A good example is the AfroDroids NFTs, created by the artist Owo Anietie. Anietie is a legendary Nigerian 3D Afrofuturism artist. Afrofuturism is a cultural philosophy of science and history that studies the developing intersection of technology and the African Diaspora culture.

Overview of the AfroDroids Non-Fungible Tokens

AfroDroids is the name of a community of half Droids and half-humans created by the Afrofuturist artist Anietie. According to the artist, these creations will inhabit the earth in 3045, when no humans are left on earth. AfroDroids was also created by a secret group of scientists known as “The W.A.” When these scientists saw what the world had become in the year 3000, they created these Droids. They are robots imbued with the consciousness of human beings. The aim is to use these Droids to turn the world around.

Humans have plundered the earth almost to its very limits. The scourge of global warming is real, and we are not doing enough to curb the existential threat it poses to us all. As we make groundbreaking technological advancements, evolution is also lurking in the corner. AfroDroids NFT drop took place on September 1, 2021, and they were all sold out within 11 minutes.

Working with Esther Eze, Owo Anietie created the first collection of Droids on April 12, 2021. They were only seven of them that he created at that time. He named the seven of them the AfroDroid 17s. Although these AfroDroid 17s were aesthetically beautiful, they were of no actual utility. Anietie wanted a combination of utility and beauty. He wanted every collector to have the feeling that their AfroDroid is specifically created for them.

Just like Elon Musk proposed humans have a microchip in their brain so robots won’t have to outsmart us, Anietie created AfroDroids with human consciousness to populate and rule the world to make it a better place. There are currently over 12,100 unique pieces of the AfroDroids NFTs. All the 12,117 AfroDroids have already been minted, and they are currently available on the OpenSea secondary market.

Giving Back To The Society

To help make the world a better place, the creators of AfroDroids will be donating 20% of the NFT sales to a charity organization known as Dream Catchers Academy for Girls. The academy is a subsidiary of The Dream Nurture Foundation, is a non-profit Academy. It provides educational opportunities, leadership skills, and a better life for underprivileged girls using dance, drama, music, and arts.

About The Artist

Owo Anietie started his career as a traditional artist in 2009 when he was doing portrait paintings and drawings for commissions. In 2012, Anietie moved to motion design, animation, and digital illustration. All the AfroDroids NFTs pay homage to the African heritage of the artist as depicted in the indigenous traits like beads, earrings, etc. His vision is to be creating and releasing an art piece every day for 50 years.

Conclusion

The AfroDroids made the story of an African, a story of the world, and there is more to come. None of us reading this article will be around in the year 3045 to know for sure how the AfroDroids will rule the earth. However, one thing is sure, the earth has been plundered, and we are not doing much to replenish it.
