I’ll run for president if Bitcoin hits $1 million, Shark Tank star says
In what can be considered a joke, Dallas Mavericks owner and Shark Tank star, Mark Cuban, said that he would run for president if Bitcoin hits $1 million. His statement came in response to a tweet from billionaire Chamath Palihapitiya.
Pro-bitcoin groups will probably want Cuban to become their president since he intends to give Bitcoin to every citizen. Responding to Palihapitiya in his tweet, Cuban said:
I'll run if BTC gets to $1m AND we can get commitments to donate 350 BTC to the Treasury each of the 4 years so that we can give 1 Satoshi to every citizen each year that they must hold for 10 years.
It is quite obvious that the billionaire was trying to get a good laugh. In the past two years, Cuban has talked about Bitcoin several times. In his most recent comments during an interview with Forbes, he said Bitcoin should not be viewed as “a hedge against doomsday scenarios.” He further added that:
[Bitcoin is] a store of value like gold that is more religion than solution to any problem [...] No matter how much BTC fans want to pretend that it’s a hedge against doomsday scenarios, it is not
Cuban is not the only prominent investor that has recognized Bitcoin as a viable store of value. Several investors and crypto pundits alike have dubbed the cryptocurrency “digital gold.”
