Johnny Deep to Launch NFTs on Ethereum, His Collection Adds over 25k Followers on Discord
Johnny Depp, a multi-award American actor, known for his role as Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean sequels, has launched an NFT collection dubbed the Never Fear Truth, a new update on January 26 reveals.

The Never Fear Truth NFT collection comprises animated portraits of his family, friends, and heroes. The team says the collection is at the "forefront of NFT culture, blurring the line between fan communities and social tokens." It will be minted on the Ethereum blockchain compliant with the ERC-721 standard.
It features 11,111 NFTs, of which 10k will be available for public sale. The remainder, the team elaborated, will be distributed at Depp’s discretion to adoring fans who have stood by him all along and to deserving team members. Notably, NFTs allocated to the team will be locked for up to three months. Afterward, 25 percent will be released every month.
25% of Revenue After Costs to be Donated, to Offset Carbon Emissions
Twenty-five percent of the revenue generated after costs will be donated to charities like the Los Angeles Children's Hospital and the Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital. These institutions have had Johnny Depp's support for years. The Elizabeth Taylor Aids Foundation, Perth Children's Hospital, and The Gonzo Trust will also benefit. They represent causes the film star cares about. Because of environmental concerns caused by Ethereum's Proof-of-Work consensus algorithm, the team will also commit to offset Carbon emissions generated during the initial sale.
Over 25k Followers on Discord
The actor's collection has been warmly received. The channel's official Twitter account has over 11.8k followers in less than a month after being established. Meanwhile, barely 24 hours after launching, over 25k users joined the Never Fear Truth's Discord channel. At one point, an outage was reported on Discord's servers due to the high traffic encountered in the first few hours.
The actor wants to build an active NFT community in Discord to "express his unique creativity, share his present and future work".
The website states:
"Owning a Never Fear Truth NFT will grant you access to Johnny's community on Discord, an innovative community platform. A place for fans and friends to come together and collaborate on creative projects. The community on Discord will offer an intimate environment for Johnny to express his creativity through; and provide you access to unique works, experiences and future projects in art, music, and film."
A Platform to Share Art and Build a community
According to Never Fear Truth's website, the acclaimed American superstar aims to, most importantly, build a platform for sharing his art. He also hopes to create a vibrant community of fans and friends using NFTs on Ethereum as a connecting medium.
Art distribution will be via a raffle system for fairness. At most, there will be three raffles conducted before any NFTs not redeemed are recycled to interested fans. Notably, all art pieces will be generated randomly and revealed after the public sale. Raffle winners will be contacted and guided on how to purchase Never Fear Truth's NFTs.
Raffle winners would end up owning Johnny Depp's original artwork. At the same time, they will be granted access to Never Fear Truth's official Discord channel and have priority access to future NFT works and partnerships by the veteran actor. From May 2022, NFT purchases would claim the physical copy of the artwork shipped to their physical address. However, the team has clarified that NFT owners can only redeem one piece for a physical copy.
