Following its announcement about its plans to enter the Metaverse space, Adidas has finally launched its NFTs, which were made available for sale on Wednesday 15th December 2021. Adidas' launch of its first NFTs signifies the company's ambition to dive into Web 3 space and Metaverse space, both of which have attracted the attention of many companies lately. This strategic move by Adidas, in the words of Erika Wykes-Sneyd, Adidas Originals' Vice President of Marketing and Communications, is in line with the company's ambition to always embark on ideas that portray originality. She further stated that with this strategic move, the company has
''landed at the forefront of creativity, which is the open metaverse... a natural place for Adidas Originals to enter: a wild world where possibilities are truly limitless and where anyone can express and be rewarded for their most original ideas."
Adidas's move into the Blockchain space should not come as a surprise to many. According to the company's Chief Digital Officer, Scott Zalaznik, "Blockchain is one of the most innovative technologies of this generation," and it is a tool the company can use to unravel unlimited opportunities through which Adidas can relate more with their customers. The Adidas Originals Collection was established via partnerships with notable clubs in the NFT space, including Gmoney, the team who created the Punk Comics and the Bored Ape Yacht Club. According to Venture Beats,
''Adidas Originals recreated Gmoney's orange beanie to be featured digitally in the Punks Comic and physically as an item of clothing. Moreover, the brand has also reimagined the celebrities as 3D avatars to be featured in a cinematic video teasing the collaboration.''
The NFTs went on sale, and buyers will have exclusive access to Adidas Originals' experiences and products. With the new development, the company has announced that as of 2022, Adidas NFT owners will have access to two forms of wearable devices, and this will be a digital and physical one.
